I screwed it onto the threaded head stock to see what it looked like, when i try to take it off the head stock turns. The direction manual has nothing on how to take it off. There does not seem to be any kind of locking mechanism to lock the head stock so i can use the wrench on the face plate. Does anyone know how to get it off? 
I don't know what kind of lathe you have, but can you hold the chuck lockdown on the outside of the machine head (That's the round metal plate on the outside with the threaded bar in line with your faceplate that holds the faceplate on). Or put a metal bar through it to hold it in place while you turn the face plate. Another way is to put it in a low gear or as slow as you can set it. That will give you enough tension on the head to turn the plate.
